Requirements

PCF Aviation, LLC is an FAA Part-61 Flight School. All of our instructors are licensed by the FAA. Our Instructional Packages are all designed to meet the minimum requirements for the rating being sought. Here are the minimum requirements for various FAA ratings:

Private Pilot - Single Engine

40 hours total Flight Time
20 hours Flight Instruction
10 hours Solo including:
     • 5 hours solo Cross-Country
     • 150 nautical mile Cross-Country with 3 full-stop landings
     • 3 Takeoffs and Landings at an airport with a Control Tower
3 hours Cross-Country
3 hours Night Flight including:
     • 100 nautical mile Cross-Country
     • 10 Takeoffs and Landings to a full-stop
3 hours Instrument Training
3 hours Test Prep Flight Training within 60 days of Practical test


Private Pilot - Multiengine

All Single Engine Requirements Plus:
3 hours Cross-Country Multiengine Flight Instruction
3 hours of Night Flight Training including:
      • 100 nautical mile Cross-Country
      • 10 Takeoffs and Landings to a full-stop
3 hours Instrument Training
10 hours Solo including:
      • 5 hours Cross-Country
      • 150 mile Cross-Country with 3 full-stop landings
      • 3 Takeoffs and Landings at an airport with a Control Tower
3 hours Test Prep Flight Training within 60 days of Practical test


Instrument Training

50 hours Cross-Country as Pilot in Command (PIC)
40 hours of Actual or Simulated Instrument Time including:
      • 15 hours of Flight Training with a CFI
      • 3 hours of Instrument Flight Training Test Prep with a CFI within 60 days of
Practical Test
250 nautical mile Cross-Country under IFR conditions including:
      • Flight must be on Airways or under ATC-directed routing
      • Instrument approaches at 3 different airports
      • A different kind of approach at each airport


Commercial Rating

250 hours of total time
100 hours in powered aircraft, including at least 50 hours in airplanes
100 hours of Pilot in Command time including:
      • 50 hours in airplanes
      • 50 hours of Cross-Country including at least 10 hours in airplanes
20 hours of Commercial Flight Training including:
      • 10 hours of Instrument Training, including 5 hours in a single-engine airplane
      • 10 hours in a Complex Airplane
      • 2 hour day VFR single-engine Cross-Country of at least 2 hours
      • 2 hour night VFR single-engine Cross-Country of at least 2 hours
      • 3 hours of Test Prep Flight Training within 60 days of Practical Test
10 hours of Solo single-engine flight including:
      • 300 mile nautical Cross-Country including
      • Landings at 3 different airports
      • 1 straight-line leg of at least 250 nautical miles
      • 5 hours of night VFR including
      • 10 Takeoffs and Landings at an airport with a control tower


Certified Flight Instructor

Current Commercial Rating
Knowledge of fundamentals of instruction including:
     • The learning process
     • Elements of effective teaching
     • Student evaluation and testing
     • Course development
     • Lesson planning
     • Classroom training techniques
